The Refiners Fire
Today, as I am packing boxes, I think back to the first Sunday I walked through the doors at Grace Assembly of God in Parker, AZ. I had just moved to town and was in search of a home church.
I was desperately in need of two things - restoration and healing. I needed to heal from past hurts that had held me captive for far too long and I needed to restore my soul to its' former right-standing with God. I was hesitant as I walked in and we found our seats, but as the worship progressed, I remember asking God to give me some sort of signal that I was in the right place. At that time, brother Jimmy began the opening chords of "Bring the Rain" by MercyMe. This song was one I particularly loved at the time and as the song continued, I was enveloped with a peace and understanding that I was "Home".
Over the next six years, I went from a somewhat quiet girl who was afraid to raise her hands in worship, to a woman called of God, who received his gifts, his mercy and his healing on many levels.
I remember watching others speaking in tongues or being slain in the spirit and thinking,"That will never happen to me. That would be really embarrassing. I just won't let it happen". Eventually, both of these things would indeed happen to me and you know what? I really didn't care what others thought about it. The experience of being in Gods` presence like that far outweighed my fears and my ego.
As the years continued, I grew stronger in my faith and in my desire to know God and his will for my life... and my church family was right there by my side, encouraging that growth.
Now, God has opened doors and has called my me and my family to another state and although it is out of our comfort zone to "start over", we know it is our time and we are excited to follow the calling and see what God has in store for us.
I just want to let the church know how much they have truly impacted my life and the life of my family. I know it may seem disheartening at times to see families move away, but I want you to realize that over the years as I have watched others move, it has always been because you have been a place of rest and restoration. A place for the broken to mend and rise up again to the next challenge ahead.
When I think of what you do, it makes me think of the Refiners fire. People come to you tarnished and in need and they leave refined by the power of God that flows through the body of Christ in your midst. Thank you for doing your part to refine and prepare me for the next chapter in life. You are very loved and will be greatly missed.

In all the years of my senior pastoral work with some of the top nations spiritual leaders, I have NEVER experienced such genuine, down to earth, practical spiritual leadership with fresh anointing as I have with Pastor George and his worship leader Jim Peters! I am proud to now call Grace Assembly my church home (whenever I'm in Parker). Fellowship with these people is more blessed than the church congregations of over 3000 with whom I have had privilege to serve. You want a sweet spirit if worship? Feel the brush of angel wings? Dynamic exposition of the Word? Try Grace Assembly. -RB

“What kind of changes does Wood foresee for the AG fellowship that represents 3 million stateside members and almost 65 million globally? Not changes in doctrine or in reliance upon the Holy Spirit. No, the changes Wood has already begun to implement involve, among other things, technology and an increased effort to reach youth.” –Charisma Magazine
